Most United States consumers know the major coffee brands. Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts coffee are national favorites, and then there are regional favorites that are different for each area of the country. However, there are also international favorites like Gevalia Coffee (sometimes seen as Gevalia Kaffe).
Gevalia is a premium, gourmet coffee company. It has over forty coffees and teas. Many of these coffees and teas are unique Arabica coffee blends that use beans from Columbia, Costa Rica, Kenya, and Guatemala. Each type of coffee is composed of up to six different blends of the Arabica beans and premium Brazilian beans. Gevalia Coffee creates a balance of different acidities to create poignant and complex flavors.
Where Is Gevalia From?
Gevalia Coffee is owned by Kraft Foods, a company that is well known to most Americans. In Scandinavia, Gevalia is the largest coffee roasting company. It gets its name from where it is located, Gavle, Scandinavia. The name “Gavle” translates to Gevalia in Latin.
In 1920, the trading company Victor Theodore Engwall And Company introduced Gevalia Coffee in Sweden. It was a family owned and operated company for one hundred and twenty years until it was sold to Kraft Foods in 1971. While Gevalia Coffee makes and produces 40,000 metric tons of coffee annually, most of this coffee is sold in Sweden, Denmark, and in the general Baltic area. Some of this coffee, however, is exported to the United States.
Gevalia Coffee In The United States
Gevalia Coffee did not begin selling in North America until 1983, and it was only available through mail order delivery service. In fact, even today it is only available through mail order delivery service, telephone orders, or World Wide Web orders. Most people probably recognize the name Gevalia Coffee from the well known introductory offer of a free 12 cup coffee maker as well as other coffee related products and incentives. At first, these offers were seen in mailings, television commercials, and magazine ads. However, online advertizing was the most popular for Gevalia Coffee. They were sued for spam in 2005 due to their online advertizing policies.
Today, Gevalia Coffee is known in the United States as an ultra premium brand of coffee. It can be ordered as premium coffee singles or coffee by the case. It is used by offices as well as home consumers. Serving Gevalia Coffee in your home or office is a quick way to show your guests or employees that you are a person who enjoys a quality product.
